The story follows an experienced Good con artist who targets a wealthy widow he meets through an online dating site, presenting himself as a polite and trustworthy gentleman while carefully laying the groundwork for an elaborate scam. As their relationship develops, subtle clues suggest that his plan may not be as straightforward as it seems. Helen Mirren portrays the widow with quiet intelligence and emotional depth, gradually revealing a character who may be far more aware and calculating than she initially appears.

Ian McKellen plays the con man and Liar with a mix of charm and menace, bringing complexity to a character shaped by decades of deception and moral compromise. As the narrative unfolds, hidden connections from the past come to light, transforming the story into a meditation on revenge, memory, and the lasting consequences of wartime actions.
